Glimpses of the life of the Nor'-East town of Elgin 
Production by Tom Dawson 
A railway signalman and a car-park attendant will introduce in this programme some of the personalities of the burgh of Elgin-the agricultural capital of the North-East. There will be an account of its industries -distilling, weaving, net-making, and stone-crushing, but the social life has not been forgotten. Elgin was once known as the Lantern of the North and still proudly bears the name, despite its size, of ' city '. 
Its 9,000 inhabitants have a tremendous enthusiasm for music. John Foster , the novelist, tells of Elgin's long and chequered history and from the ruins of the thirteenth-century cathedral, once set on fire by the Wolf of Badenoch, will come the singing of the massed choirs of Elgin. 
Listeners can also hope to eavesdrop on a brief reconstruction of drill-night with the Territorials, part of a rehearsal by the local light-opera company, and a very secret interview with an anonymous poacher.
