A Calendar of the Rural Round
Devised by JOHN R. ALLAN
. Advised by JOHN STRACHAN
Produced by MOULTRIE KELSALL and broadcast from the house and close of a farm in Buchan
This programme is to some extent a repeat of' The Farm Year ' which was broadcast in December, 1935, but those concerned with it hope that the repeat is not taken too accurately by the elements, for on that winter day the snow on the ground and a hail-storm made things difficult from the Outside Broadcast point of view. Twenty minutes before the actual transmission the cast had to bring their scripts into the farmhouse and lay them on the kitchen stove to dry !
The programme runs full circle round the year, following the incessant work of the farm. But it is not all work and no play. There are fore-gatherings of farming folk, markets, cattle shows, and other celebrations, and, as one might expect from such an author as John R. Allan , humour and gaiety are well to the fore.
