5 - ' West meets East'
P. I. KEITH-MURRAY
Most people think of India as a land of snakes, tigers, and elephants, with dense jungle, and river banks lined with temples. But there are also coal mines such as may be found in Fife, iron-works like those in Falkirk, and jute factories like those in Dundee. Mr.
Keith-Murray spent eight years in India, occupying himself mainly with the electrification of mines. In 1926 he started his own wireless transmitter, and sent out regular programmes, and it was through him that the chimes of Big Ben were first heard in India. He is now in charge of ' outside ' broadcasts in Scotland. Some of the biggest jobs he has tackled recently were the relays from Messrs. Colville's, Auchengeich Colliery , Yoker Power Station, and Provan Gas Works.
