Sale and District Musical Society
Conductor. Alfred Higson
Though often classed as a Lancashire combination (Sale being now for many people a dormitory of Manchester), this choir, which was founded in 1907 by its conductor Alfred Higson , is proud of its Cheshire origin and environment.
Sale certainly is in Cheshire, but if there is a musical War of the Roses afoot, then this is a Red Rose choir-and a great asset to the county.
' Sale and District' has since its foundation been one of the most successful competitive choirs in the country, and has supported the festival movement by attending the principal gatherings in the North and Midlands. Wales , too, knows these singers; one of their successes there was in 1935 when at Caernarvon they were top in the chief choral class.
Altogether, the choir's first prizes now total nearly eighty.
