Arthur Watkyn 's Beethoven play, which some listeners may have missed when it was first broadcast, had its first stage production at Daly's, London, in 1936, and was performed by the Birmingham Repertory Theatre Company in March, 1939. Arthur Mainzer plays the composer, and the narration is given by David King-Wood , playing Ferdinand Ries , one of Beethoven's pupils.
