THE WEEK'S GOOD CAUSE

An appeal on behalf of THE GIRL'S HOSTEL, SHELTON, by The Ven. PERCY HARTILL, Archdeacon of Stoke-on-Trent 
In this hostel there are always some twenty-five girls, most of whom are in their early 'teens. All come voluntarily and none is forced to stay longer than she wishes. The difficulty sometimes is to find room for newcomers, who are introduced to the hostel by social workers. 
Most of the girls come from bad or broken-up homes, and go out daily to work-the Potteries employ a large number of women. In return for their board they pay a percentage of their earnings, thus taking a responsible share in the upkeep of the home. 
Nevertheless, the Girls' Hostel needs much outside help. Overhead costs are heavy and while the work continues to grow, expenses must needs grow with it.
