THE OXFORD NEW THEATRE ORCHESTRA

This Orchestra of twelve players was founded in February, 1934, when the New Theatre was built. William Brightwell is the music director of the theatre ; he had been conducting Wild Violets on tour, and it was with this play that the theatre was opened. He was formerly with George Edwardes and at Drury Lane. The leader of the orchestra, Ernest Gipps , was musical director during the winter season at Bexhill-on-Sea.

The Week's Good Cause

An Appeal on behalf of The Midlands Catholic Lands Association by The Right Rev. Mgr. J. Dey, D.S.O.

The Midlands Catholic Lands Society was founded when unemployment was at its height in order to further the scheme to settle unemployed men on the land, and thus prevent the deterioration caused by being out of work. The Archbishop of Birmingham and the Bishops of Shrewsbury and Nottingham are its patrons, and Monsignor Dey, of Oscott College, its Chairman. It has a training farm at West Fields, Market Bosworth, Leicestershire.
