One day, out of the blue, a script came into the Midland offices, and it was so good that it simply had to be produced. But there was a snag in it. Many of  the parts were in Cotswold dialect. The difficulty was got over by enlisting the services of some amateurs from 
Worcestershire, and with their help the play is to be presented tonight. 
The Squire, living as he does in a fine manor house with irreplaceable antiques and old masters, looks askance on the Parish Council's horse-drawn equipment to deal with fires. Possibly he had heard of both engine and fire-men being ready and the horses out somewhere drawing the local ' fly'. However that may be, he offers to pay half the cost of a motor fire engine. The opposition shown by a powerful element of the Council who fear the other half of the cost will fall on to the rates, leads up to a battle that should make good listening,, and to a denouement that is an ingenious surprise.
