Stones at Long Compton 
The Rollright Stones form the only prehistoric circle in Oxfordshire, and include about sixty stones. A little north, just across the Warwickshire boundary, is the King's Stone, a monolith about eight feet high. Long Compton village is visible from the whole ridge except at this point, where it is concealed by a small mound. The story is that a witch, having promised a king that he should rule over all England if he could see Long Compton, raised the ground to prevent him doing so. The king and his men were turned into stones and the witch became an elder tree.
