Don Giovanni , a notorious libertine of Seville, has, in amorous pursuit of Donna Anna , killed the Commandant, her father, who came to her rescue. The rest of Act I and most of Act 11 is concerned withlGiovanni's intrigues and adventures. 
The great scene which follows is that in which the statue of the dead commandant speaks words of warning to Giovanni, and is insolently invited by the unrepentant libertine to supper. The statue attends at the appointed hour and seizing Giovanni, drags him down into the infernal regions.
