' Fish and Aquaria ' Margery G. Elwin
Most of us have experienced how hopeless it is to try to keep goldfish alive in a bowl. We have tried changing the water frequently ; we have immersed water plants in the sand ; we have varied the diet-all to no purpose ; and have blamed ourselves for doing something wrong. It is comforting to know from the editress of Water Life that it is the bowl that is wrong and you just can't keep goldfish alive in one.
She will explain why, and will tell listeners what is necessary in the way of an aquarium, water, sand, plant-life (we were on the right lines there!), and food. It is interesting to know that in favourable conditions a goldfish may live, not twenty hours or days, but twenty years.
She will deal not only with cold water fish, but with tropical fish too Million fish that multiply, astonishingly ; Fighting fish that live up to their name ; Butterfly fish that you can see through ; and Neon Tetra, whose colouring, she says vividly, is as brilliant as the red and green traffic lights.

The Piano Quintet in E flat is the first important work of its kind. Many composers, notably Mozart, had tried their hand at the piano quartet, but with the exception of Lachner none appears to have thought of using the far richer combination of string quartet with piano. Curiously enough, even after the fine examples of Schumann, Brahms, Dvořák, and Cesar Franck composers have shown considerable reluctance in handling this combination. Elgar is one of the few exceptions.
Schumann's Quintet is his most successful large-scale composition and one of the greatest of all his works. Certainly it has a freshness, vigour, and clarity of design that he rarely equalled in other works of similar proportions.
