A notable feature about this evening's performance of Parsifal is the first appearance in England of Fritz Reiner. Fritz Reiner was born at Budapest and began his career as assistant conductor of the Budapest Opera Comique and, later, as conductor of the Volksoper. After filling other important posts, he was appointed musical director of the Dresden State Opera, which he left in order to go to America as conductor of the Cincinatti Symphonic Orchestra. Since that time, he has conducted several of the leading American orchestras, such as the New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra. During the season 1934-1935, he was in charge of the Philadelphia Grand Opera Company.
