On page 8 Alfred Einstein tells the interesting history of Mozart's Rondo for piano and orchestra, the MS. of which Anton Andr6 bought from the composer's widow in 1799. Mr. Einstein adds that ' it was, however, not among the MSS. which Andr6 offered for sale in 1841, and it is clear that he must have disposed of it in the meantime, possibly to J. A. Stumpff , the well-known harp-manufacturer and music-dealer, who is known to have purchased several Mozart autographs from him in 1811, among them the ten famous Quartets, which since 1907 have been one of the treasures of the British Museum. It was not one of the autographs sold with the rest of Stumpff's effects in 1847, but there is reason to think that it was auctioned on his behalf by a Mr. French, of 9, East Street, Red Lion Square, about 1840 '.
