Winifred Holtby: 'The Candidate who was candid'
Satire has not been attempted much on the microphone, possibly for the reason hat the running commentary that Father Ronald Knox gave some years ago on an imaginary revolution created such excitement that stock 'risat.re slumped. It is to be hoped that the speeches to be given in this series will not be taken too seriously by those who hear them.
We have all listened to speeches - some of them go on for a a long time: but it is fairly safe to say that this speech of Mr. Gregory Grigson, Parliamentary Candidate for Glooming on-under-the-Weather, as written by Wiifred Holtby and delivered by Aubrey Mather will not be greeted by supressed yawns but by continuous laughter, for it is very amusing from beginning to end.
