by NICHOLAS TAYLOR architectural and planning correspondent of the Sunday Times
The second of three talks on some architectural developments of current interest
Taking Pevsner's dictum that ' A bicycle shed is a building: Lincoln Catredral is a piece of architecture ' to mean Lincoln is a piece of permanent, a bicycle shed a piece of temporary architecture.' Mr. Taylor examines the present division of the designing professions into two camps-the rationalists who optimistically exploit the temporary versus the romantics with their belief in permanence.
