A suggestion for a new language game by Michael Redmond Mullin

We are familiar with a sound of beatles crying 'Help!', but long before their song Ludwig Wittgenstein had described philosophy's aim as showing the fly the way out of the fly bottle. Michael Redmond Mullin reflects on the relation between the philosopher and Richard Lester's presentation of the pop idols; a relation which he locates neither on the plane of solemnity, nor on that of frivolity, but in the universe of play.

An anthology of poems and extracts by Homer, Alceaeus, Aeschylus. Euripides, Timotheus, Plato, Theocritus, Leonidas of Tarentum, Antiphilus and Gregory of Nazianzos
Greek reader, JOHN THEOCHARIS
English reader, WILLIAM SQUIRE
Programme devised by CONSTANTINE TRYPANIS and LEO AYLEN and introduced by CONSTANTINE TRYPANIS
Nowhere in Greece is very fat from the sea. and a sense of the sea pervades all Greek writing, especially Greek poetry, from Homer to the present day. It seemed natural therefore to choose the theme of the sea for the first programme of Classical Greek poetry in the original to be broadcast by the BBC.
One of the difficulties about broadcasting Classical Greek is the question of pronunciation. For this production a Greek actor has learnt a version of the pronunciation accepted in England. The intonation is what English Classi cists will expect; the vowel sounds are Greek. Each poem will be preceded by an English version.
