Louise is torn between her love for Julien and her love for her parents, who disapprove of Julien's bohemian way of life. She goes to live with Julien, but returns home when her father falls gravely ill. However, as he recovers, Louise realises her parents expect her to stav with them. She quarrels violently with her father, and returns to Julien-and to the great city that has given her freedom. Paris.
