DONALD TYERMAN and GEORGE SCOTT in conversation
The weekly journal of opinion is a characteristically-though not uniquely-British institution, fulfilling an imprecise but nevertheless real and valuable function of communication between decision makers and the people and public processes affected by the decisions. Of British journals, The Economist is arguably the archetype, and is certainly the most influential and ambitious. Donald Tyerman was until recently its editor; and in this conversation with George Scott (editor of the now defunct Truth) he attempts to define what a weekly journal sets out to do and how it does it.
