Earthquakes in Computers by P. L. WILLMORE of the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh For almost fifty years, very little progress was made on the techniques for studying earthquakes. But in the Jast few years, magnetic tape recording and electronic computers have transformed the subject. In the first of two talks on modern seismology. Dr. Willmore, who is head of a seismic research group in Edinburgh, describes how this exciting development has come about.
