BRADYKININ by G. P. Lewis , Ph.D. of the Medical Research Council
When an organ or tissue is active, it needs more energy than when it is at rest. This extra energy comes from an increase in the blood supply. It is bradykinin that is thought to cause the blood vessels to expand to allow the blood flow to increase. When the balance of this mechanism is disturbed, bradykinin is responsible for the resulting inflammation. Dr. Lewis discusses recent research on this remarkable naturally-occurring substance.
