A weekly programme about work in the world of science
Man and the Oceans by N. B. Marshall of the British Museum (Natural History)
It sounds almost facetious to speak about the future of the Oceans, but what is happening under by far the greater part of the earth's surface cannot but be of importance to the future of mankind. Two hundred thousand species inhabit the seas-can this fertility be turned to man's advantage? Is it safe to use the oceans as dumping grounds for radioactive waste? Are the oceans in some way connected with the climatic changes that are becoming manifest, particularly in eastern North America and northern Europe?
