'New Routes in Europe'
A talk about some new mountain roads on the Continent from the cyclist's point of view
NEVILL WHALL
Nevill Whall is a well-known Continental bicycle tourist. During the course of his travels he has crossed no fewer than ninety-seven Alpine passes. Each winter he lectures on his tours, and writes about them in the cycling Press under his pen name of ' Hodites '.
His talk this evening will deal with his crossing of the two newest passes in Europe. One is the Glocknerstrasse, in the Austrian Alps, rising to well over 8,000 feet. The other is the Col de l'lseran in the Tarentaise Alps of France. When completed, this will be the highest pass in France, and one of the highest in the world.

Will Hay and his Scholars are not only humorists, but first-class actors, and they are always welcome back.
Dave Kaye worked for three years in a timber merchant's office and was thrown out of work by a slump. He got a job as accompanist to a girl who sang songs in a store. Later he formed his own dance band, and in time became pianist to Jerry Hoey, Syd Lipton, and Jack Harris. By chance he met Ivor Moreton, who had been wasting his time in a stockbroker's office, and they joined up.
The Southern Sisters are three. Two actual sisters: Vera, a dramatic soprano who studied at the R.A.M. and has appeared in opera, and Betty, coloratura soprano, who has played in musical comedies in London. The third partner in the act is Sybille Jason, whom they met in the south of France.
Issy Bonn, the Hebrew comedian, is back on the air for the third time since his first broadcast in November. And Ronald Frankau, who appeared last night as Mr. Murgatroyd, is to appear tonight as himself. He is featured in 'People You Hear' on page 8.
