THREE series of legal talks are a feature of the autumn talks programme. This morning series is strictly practical in intention. A barrister, necessarily anonymous, will deal simply with legal problems that most; commonly 'affect the everyday life of citizens.
This first talk will explain the often misunderstood state of the law regarding Hire Purchase, and other relations between tradesmen and customers. The next two talks will explain the application of the Rent Restrictions Act both from the tenants' and the landlords' point of view. The final talk—' You and Your Neighbours '—will deal' with the buming question of annoyance caused by loud-speakers. Fear and mistrust of the law's working are usually grotinded in ignorance ' but with the aid of a qualified barrister, here offe.red, it can be made an invaluable ally.

' EXILES opens in a Montmartre
' boite ' in post-war Paris, where two Russian exiles, an old prince and a young count, are living ignoniinLonsly as a waiter and a dancing partner. The play fades back through a succession of highly-coloured scenes, including a ball at the Imperial Court and a regimental dinner, to episodes of their earlier life in Russia before and during the war. The threads of personal narrative are worked into a panoramic review of the events in Russia that culminated in Kerensky's short-lived regime and the final triumph of Lenin and the Bolsheviks. The two main characters represent two aspects of the philosophy of exile : the older man is disillusioned, but the young count is alive with bitter memories that flame up in the final scene into a magnificently futile revolt against the proprietor and patrons of the night-club. ' Exiles ' is an early play for the microphone by the B.B.C. Productions Director. In his recently published ' How to Write Broadcast Plays,' the author has criticized various points of the play's construction with unusual candour in the light of his later experience; but submits that it remains gool exciting radio entertainment, an opinion listeners are likely to support.

A RADIO producer looks back and pulls out of the files a miscellany of songs, patter numbers, burlesques, and sketches that show the way light entertainment programmes have grown under his hand in the last seven years. The compere is kept busy giving the context of the various extracts, their date, history, and topical excuse. Listeners with memories will have them pleasantly titillated by revivals of such old forgotten things as ' Nothing Serious,' a song from the first pantomime with stage costume and make-up ;' the burlesque surprise item, in which Mr. Namon Bravado , the visiting film-star, modestly points out the merits of his new film ; The Little Mistake, a farcical musical comedy from the days when such things were funny ; the sketch, Ripe Tomatoes, showing two popular song writers distilling their next ' wow,' and many other pleasant trifles built round the topicalities of yesterday. Listeners who do not remember these things will be given, we hope, further cause to bewail their laggardliness in applying for licences. The distinguished group of artists and collaborators that assists the author-producer with these resurrected revels includes many, such as Jack Arnold , Harry Pepper , George Barker , Horace Percival , Stuart Robertson , Wynne Ajello , and John Armstrong , besides staff stalwarts, who have worked hard in recent years for listeners' delight. Tonight they, and he, take a well-deserved, but not a final, ' curtain.'
