William Harvey (1587-1657)-Tho Import of hia Discovory of the Circulation of the Blood'
SIR J. ARTHUR THOMSON sets out in this series to give simple biographies of six famous scientific investigators, with the aim of setting their achievements in proper perspective. William Harvey , his first subject, published his work on the circulation of the blood in 1628; his conceptions of the blood as a continuous stream returning to its source and of the heart as the motor power of the movement of the blood wore entirely original. Harvey made modern accurate anatomy possible, and his scientific comparative method of investigation was as important as his actual discoveries.
