THE music cabinet of a 'cello player can usually be relied upon to yield a number of pieces written for the 'cello by David Popper-a 'cello player himself, and one who had the technique of the instrument, not only under his own fingers, but, so to speak, under the fingers of every 'cello player who ever handled the instrument. The music he wrote for the 'cello consisted only of minor concert pieces, but they were extremely well done, and possessed a charm which will keep them in the repertory long after today. He was a Czech musician, and held the post of professor at the Royal Conservatoire at Budapest, but he toured Europe, and made some appearances in London.
