(Romani)
Relayed from THE ROYAL OPERA House, COVENT
GARDEN
Romani, the composer of Fedra, is as yet almost unknown to opera-goers in England, and this evening the opera is being performed for the first time on any stage, excepting that of Rome. It won a prize offered by the Municipality of Romo and made its first appearance there in April, 1915. The libretto is founded on d'Annunzio's poem of the same name, ono which offers full scope for that blend of tense drama and lyric melody in which Italian opera composers are so happily at home. Tho name part is to be sung by Madame. Ponselle, whom listeners have already heard this season in Verdi's La Forza del Destino.
