by A Welsh Slate-Quarryman
(From Swansea)
Slate quarrying is the staple industry of the counties of Caernarvon and Merioneth and in prosperous times it affords employment or some thousands of skilled workers. Many of the slate quarrymen occupy small holdings scattered about the hillsides. The busy seasons on the farms generally coincide with the slack times in the quarry, and these men turn easily from one occupation to the other as occasion requires.
