Mind Picture: A room in Anthony Dacre's house, Regent's Park, comfortably and handsomely furnished; the kind of room in which the dramatist can work and enjoy his leisure equally well.

Character Description: Clarke, an old-style parlourmaid, in dress very stiff and starchy, in appearance tall, thin and very prim-almost grim; age about 35.
Anthony Dacre, a fine looking man of a retiring disposition; age 40; never interviews a female except in the presence of his wife.
Hilda Bruce, one of those women who have the knack of looking slovenly and plain or smart and attractive, according to circumstances.
