Sonata No. 11 in A Major (K 331)
THIS is the best known of Mozart's Piano
Sonatas, not only because it is the easiest to play, but largely because of the definite character of its First and Third Movements.
The FIRST MOVEMENT is a set of six Variations on a dainty, clean little Tune, which is first announced. This famous melody is as fresh and simple and unaffected as a daisy, and the sort of thing that anybody could compose (although only Mozart and one or two others have succeeded). The course of the Variations (the third of which is in the minor) will be easily followed.
Tho SECOND MOVEMENT is a Minuet, in the regulation triple time, with a middle section and a repetition of the opening section.
Tho THIRD is ' Mozart's Turkish March,' a character piece which more or less explains itself. It is often played apart from the Sonata, being frequently used, for instance, to accompany the ballet-dancing in Mozart's Opera, The Marriage of Figaro.
