Grandfather Dale avoided Henry when he arrived at King's Acre and Henry, offended, went back to London. Mrs. Dale felt rather exhausted by her family and went away for a weekend by herself. Eventually Henry turned up at the hotel and brought her back to London. Mrs. Freeman suspected that it was Jimmy Parsons who had run Annie over; when she went to see Mrs. Parsons she found that Jimmy had gone away. Caradoc agreed to meet Bob for a drink, but never turned up.
