While dining out with Miriam, the Dales saw Ransome, whom they recognised as Frederick Moore , Alec's associate in the Denby Harris scandal. They were appalled but Miriam defended Alec's new business association with him. Edward Fielding had 'flu and, though supposed to stay in bed, got up to go to the office. He fainted in the drive, where he was found by Mrs. Maggs. Later, despite Dr. Dale's orders, he got up and went to work.
