Mrs. Dale brought Grandfather Dale down from Scotland to stay at Virginia Lodge; he insisted on bringing his old dog Robbie with him. When they arrived they discovered that Mrs. Freeman had moved upstairs to her old flat and left her rooms on the first floor for Grandfather Dale. Mrs. Dale was upset to hear that Thompkins the milkman's horse was to be sold for slaughter. Fulton decided to set off in a caravan to collect material for an article about the Romanies; he suggested to Rachel Guest that she should move into his house while he was away so that she could write in peace and quiet. Sally had trouble with Marion, who left Stephanie in a rage and complained to George Hichens ; Harvey Hichens did not take the incident seriously; he told Sally to give Marion a straight talk and then drcp the matter.
