The Case of Sir John Fenwick
Sir John Fenwick was executed in 1697 for plotting to assassinate King William III. He was certainly a Jacobite, fanatically loyal to the exiled James II , but would he have connived at murder? Some forty letters of his, written while in prison to his wife, came to light only four years ago and have not yet been published. They are certainly not the letters of a guilty man.
