The choir was formed as recently as 1949. Within a year it had given a number of successful broadcasts. Festival year brought it still more into prominence. It took part in a series On Wings of Song with Leslie Woodgate as conductor, and also contributed to the Festival programmes of Oxford, Bristol, and Seaford.
Its strength for concerts is seventy, but there are in all about eighty-five girls, whose ages range from ten to twenty-three.
