Organised by the News of the World
From the Empire Pool and Sports Arena. Wembley
The last two decades have seen darts, at one lime solely a tap-room or parlour game, raised to the status of a recognised sport. There are annual championships all over the country. One of the biggest is that run by the News of the World, which had a record entry this year of 300,000. As we go to press 299,992 of the competitors have fallen in combat in sixty-four area finals and eight divisional finals, and, if he is not beaten in a divisional final to come, Yorkshire's Aubrey Boomer will be the only one of last year's finalists to appear at Wembley tonight.
