John Mayer , who is Anglo-Indian by birth, studied at the Royal Academy of Music and then joined the violins of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
The ' Raga Jayajavanti ' is the third movement of his Dance Suite, 'Ramayana,' for full orchestra. The Raga is an Indian musical scale, of which there are 132, the basis of all Indian classical music. Jayajavanti is a name derived from the musical scale called Jijavanta, after the companion to the God of Love. ' Dressed in yellow, his forehead elaborately marked with saffron, Jijavanta plays charmingly his heart-enchanting flute.' There is no harmony; the music is entirely rhythmic or melodic, apart from a constant drone accompaniment.
