Four talks by John Waterhouse , Ph.D. Reader in Medical Statistics in the University of Birmingham
1—Science and Heredity
The science of human genetics is relatively new, and there are many questions frequently asked by the layman to which the geneticist can give no answer. However, in these talks Dr. Waterhouse attempts to set out, in relation to the ordinary person's interest, something of what is known about human heredity.
In his first talk he defines the limits and describes the methods of the science, and distinguishes between the influences of heredity and environment in human development.

Roy Herbert chooses Count Fosco with Robert Gladwell as Count Fosco
Count Fosco was a mountainous man. He never stopped eating sickly cakes, trifles, cream and sugar. He would sit, overflowing the arms of his chair, letting his white mice run all over him, chasing the cockatoo sitting on his head and chirruping to his pet canaries. He was very partial to small animals, but did not care a great deal for human beings. He believed that the body lies at the mercy of that most omnipotent of all potentates, the chemist. Chemistry aided him in his foul career.
