A weekly programme for those interested in brushing up their French.
Peter and Helen Lamb are spending a holiday in France. They know a little French, but have not had much opportunity to try it out. They arrive at Dieppe and their first difficulty arises when they warn to leave their baggage in a cloakroom before they look round the town. In a cafe facing the quay they order omelettes, but asking for an aperitif is not so easy. Peter Lamb's French is not quite up to the occasion, but luckily Hermes appears at the crucial moment. Some of the words and expressions used: La douane, the Customs: faire un petit tour en ville: par ou? which way?: par ici, this way: par la, that way: je vous sers quelque chose? What would you like to eat?: omelette nature aux fines herbes, aux champignons: le vin du pays, local wine: a votre sante?l
