Appeal on behalf of the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief by Gilbert Murray, o.M.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
The Oxford Committee for Famine Relief nas the support of leading members of all principal political parties, and representatives of various religious denominations serve on thi Committee. The registered objects are * the relief of suffering arising as a result of war or other causes in any part of the world.' Of the several countries that have been helped in the past, some are now able to help others. It is computed, however, that there are still more than 25,000,000 refugees, in the world and a tar greater number of children suffering from serious malnutrition or lack of clothing.
It is possible to send enough clothing for one refugee family for ten shillings; two shillings will send sufficient for one child; and £ 10 enables the Committee to pack and despatch seven hundred garments. Donations are urgently required for the sending of a million garments to Europe and the Middle East, and for food and medicine for those in greatest need

2 —'The Return of the Master
Produced by James Crampsey in the BBC's Scottish studios
Lord Durrisdecr has two sons-his heir James Durie , the Master of Ballantrae, and Henry, the cadet. Both are in love with Alison Graeme , the beautiful, wilful kins-woman and heiress who has lived with the Duries since the death of her parents. On the outbreak of the Rebellion of 1745, the reckless, attractive Master rides off to join Prince Charles Edward. As it is the old Lord's policy to keep favour with both sides, the reluctant Henry is left at home.
After the Battle of Culloden, the family hears that the Master has been killed. Alison had loved him and the news affects her deeply. After a time, thanks to the persuasions of the old Lord, she consents to marry Henry, though she tells him frankly that she" has no love for him. Their marriage is not a happy one. However, when little Miss Catherine is born it looks as though better times would come to Durrisdeer. Then one April evening a mysterious visitor. Colonel Burke, arrives on a smuggling ship from France.
Second thoughts on the English by Professor G. J. Renier
Professor Renter's book The English: Are They Human? was first published in 1931. Ever since that date Professor Renier has lived and worked in this country. When :t was suggested to him by his publishers that he might consider revising certain passages in his book his answer was that after 50 many years his impressions of the English had changed radically. This evening Professor Renier talks about some of the changes he has observed.
