' Songs of Mary', sung by the BBC Singers
The Angel's Greeting ; Mary and the Boatman ; Mary's Wandering ; The Hunter ; A Prayer to Mary ; Mary Magdalene ; In Praise of Mary
These songs are episodes taken from .sacred legends of the life of the Virgin, and they are set in the manner of the old German sacred choral songs ; but of course with Brahms's own idiom. All these songs are beautiful, but many hold 'the loveliest to be ' ' Mary and the Boatman ', with its sound of bells heard across the lake.
