The BBC presents Sir Henry Wood 's 49th season. Associate conductor,-Sir Adrian Boult. BBC Symphony Orchestra (leader, Paul Beard )
From the Royal Albert Hall , London
Sir Arnold Bax 's Symphony No. 7 received its world premiere with the New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sir Adrian Boult , at the World's Fair in 1939. It was specially written for this occasion and dedicated to The People of the United States of America '. The Symphony consists of three instead of the usual four movements : the first is typical of the composer's symphonic style, with its varied moods, chiefly of a turbulent character ; the second it lyrical and romantic ; and the third is noteworthy for being in variation form.
