Monia Liter , who made his 'first appearance in this country playing with Al Bowlly at the Holborn Empire in 1933. was born in Odessa on the Black Sea. At an early age he was admitted to the Imperial School of Music, and after studying there for some time, went to Harbin in North China where he gained his first professional experience. While at Harbin he fell m with a dance band run by some American soldiers stationed in the town ; he soon had a hand of his own in Hankow, and later played in Calcutta and Singapore.

Gwen Catley , who is very popular with listeners, went to the Guildhall School of Music when she was only seventeen. Two years later she won a scholarship there, and later, the gold medal at the Guildhall. Since then, she has sung with most of the principal orchestras all over the country, and has won notable success as an operatic singer. At Sadler's Wells she sang the difficult music of ' Queen of the Night' in The Magic Flute, and she also appeared there as Nanette in Falslaft. In the good old days of television she played Cinderella in the television pantomime.
