Monia Liter , who made his 'first appearance in this country playing with Al Bowlly at the Holborn Empire in 1933. was born in Odessa on the Black Sea. At an early age he was admitted to the Imperial School of Music, and after studying there for some time, went to Harbin in North China where he gained his first professional experience. While at Harbin he fell m with a dance band run by some American soldiers stationed in the town ; he soon had a hand of his own in Hankow, and later played in Calcutta and Singapore.
