Your Weekend - Saturday
A Second showing of the popular television series "Maigret" 9.50
There's a familiar aroma of Gauloises and garlic around the Television Centre once again, and the now familiar strains of the Maigret theme music can be heard in the studio.
Producer Andrew Osborn is back in residence. After a week's location filming in Paris, he has returned to start work on a new series of Maigret stories scheduled to be shown in the autumn. He says, 'We're not changing the format. It's very difficult to do that kind of thing once the story is well known. Besides, in the case of Maigret, there's no need to'.
Indeed not. There are no phoney French accents, or ridiculous attempts to transform well-known English faces with moustaches and berets in the hope that this will make them look Parisian.
And among the faces once again will be the expressive one of Rupert Davies, complete with the battered trilby, and the inevitable pipe. To Maigret fans, it's as though an old friend has suddenly returned. And 'the Patron' will once again have Ewen Solon as his faithful assistant, Lucas.
Tonight, you can see the first programme in a repeat showing of the first Maigret series, which was originally shown during last November, December, and January.
