Tim Frazer has discovered the reason for the death of Miss Thackeray. After helping the scientist, Kurt Lander, to escape from China, Miss Thackeray was murdered and Lander fell into the hands of Laurence James. On instructions from his department, Frazer meets Laurence James and arranges to 'buy' Kurt Lander. They agree to meet the following morning to complete the negotiations; but an 'accident' has been prepared for Frazer as he drives to the rendezvous.
