Percy Thrower's guest today is Ernest Baines, rose foreman of the National Rose Society's trial grounds at St. Albans, Hertfordshire, who pays another visit to the Club to talk about seasonal work to be done in the rose garden, including the control of pests and diseases. He also demonstrates the method of budding roses.
Francis Hanger, Curator of the Royal Horticultural Society's Gardens at Wisley, talks about grapes for the cold greenhouse and the warm wall.
Percy Thrower demonstrates the thinning-out of apples and pears and how to layer border carnations. He also deals with the pricking out of wallflowers and the potting of cineraria seedlings.
