For his first television documentary Leonard Cottrell has chosen a subject very different from the historical and archaeological subjects with which he has mainly been associated in his fourteen years of sound radio. First Novel is based on his own experiences as a writer, as well as those of a number of novelist friends, and sets out to describe the processes through which a novel must pass from leaving the author's pen to arriving on the bookstall.
