One of the main competitions in the national Eisteddfod is the composition of a poem in free-verse on a given theme. The winning poet if crowned with all the traditional pomp and ceremony of the Gorsedd of Bards of the Isle of Britain.

A visit to the Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales.
The Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales is a great festival in which Welsh people of all ages compete in writing poetry, singing, acting, composing, painting.
The Eisteddfod lasts a whole week, but today is specially reserved for the young. Television cameras take you to the Pavilion to see some of the competitions and to how how an Eisteddfod is conducted.

The Rev. A.E. Jones (whose bardic name is 'Cynan') is well known throughout Wales as a preacher, poet, and dramatist.
This year he completes his term of office as Archdruid of Wales and tonight in an interview with Hywel Davies he tells something of the background and history of the great cultural festival - the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
