From the story by W. W. Jacobs.
Adapted for television by Lionel Brown.
[Starring] Russell Thorndike

The scene is Solomon Hyams' shop off the Commercial Road, London, in November 1890.
David Kossoff is appearing in 'Tobias and the Angel at the Arts Theatre, London)
Solomon Hyams is not averse to a shady deal. As he puts it: "I'm not afraid of anything if there's money in it" and there is money - big money - in this deal with the sailor who brings something more interesting to dispose of than old clothes and tawdry knick-knacks which festoon the crowded pawnshop. Hyams is aware that he is taking a risk; he is aware even that the stakes are higher than usual. But just how high they are he, and the viewer, will not discover until this grim little piece winds chillingly to its close.
