The life of a girl who, despite handicaps, made a successful career but lacked the self-knowledge to enjoy her success to the full.

Dr. Alfred Torrie, Medical Director of the National Association for Mental Health, introduces the film and at the end explains why certain events have influenced the development of the principal character in the story.
